Does Best Buy Repair Cameras

Anybody ever use Geeksquad at best purchase to fix a broken camera?

So my d5100 broke after a tripod incident. The sensor was scratched badly, the mirror croaky, the shutter is stuck, the affair belongings the mirror is bent, the strip way behind the camera is ripped, and the viewfinder is busted because at that place is no mirror. It also makes a loud grinding noise

I brought it to all-time buy, thank god i bought warranty, and they are sending it to texas to exist stock-still. The geek squad guy told me that it looked pretty bad, so they might give me a new camera rather than actually fixing information technology. What are the chances that i volition get a new camera, instead of my old camera beingness stock-still? How much does it really toll to ready all those parts? Practice you know if i could apply the new d5100 if i get one, and use information technology as store credit toward a d7100 or d600?

It's a good thing you lot bought a warranty, otherwise you would of had to outright buy a new photographic camera, since MFG warranties do non cover adventitious impairment!

If the camera is not cost effective to repair, or there is any filibuster in parts, you lot will get a replacement camera, a la a "junkout". From what it seems past your accident descriptions, your camera seems to have a good amount of damage to where it may not be price effective to repair and at that point they would not ship you back your cleaved camera, but yous would become a new one in the shop. Unless they can repair all that, then they will send it back repaired and your warranty is withal valid.

If you lot practise indeed go a junkout, you lot volition get a store credit (or an exchange) for whatever you desire. You don't even need to buy a camera, even though obviously you desire one! You volition become dorsum what y'all paid in credit, and sometimes your GSP plan will be pro-rate refunded back to you (unless they FULFILL the plan). Either style you can buy a new plan on whichever replacement camera you choose. I hope this helps!

I brought it to best purchase, give thanks god i bought warranty

You probably hateful insurance, warranty usually only deals with manufacturing defects.

99.999%

If it's as bad as you say it is, there is no fashion they are going to spend time fixing it, information technology would be far more expensive than to just get a new camera.

How much does it actually price to ready all those parts?

Rough guesses including parts and time spent (I don't live in the US so these numbers are pulles directly out of my a**):

  • sensor - 150$
  • mirror + mirror assembly - 100$
  • shutter - 75$
  • + any other stuff

Do y'all know if i could use the new d5100 if i get one, and use it every bit store credit toward a d7100 or d600?

Y'all should ask all-time-buy, but I don't really think so. It will probably price best-purchase less to get yous a new d5100 than what you bought it for originally, and then it is not worth as much to them. Then once again, I really don't know how they would handle it.

Repair price exceeds replacement.

They'll just supervene upon it. You may not get a new unit of measurement but whatever y'all become volition exist an improvement.

It is an authorized repair. Best buy doesn't repair cameras in store. They're shipped to the service heart.
